Wanda Summers holds a Degree in Personal Training and FdSc Sociology and works as a Freelance Personal Trainer and manages Stones Reef Surf Shop in Cornwall, England.
Wanda is the occasional Personal Trainer for Westcountry Case Management who provides support for people who have had catastrophic accidents, complex physical and psychological injuries and trained with Pace Rehabilitation in Stockport who specialise in limb loss.
Selected to work as a Personal Trainer in the London 2012 Olympics and in the 2012 Paralympics, Portland, England.
In her spare time, Wanda Summers is an ultra runner and endurance athlete. She is also a paraglider pilot, member of Cornwall Mine Explorers Club, experienced with Single Rope Technique (SRT) kayaking and a small time adventurer (wanting to do big adventures).
Wanda ran in her first event TheMarathon Des Sables in 2008.
After a short break to recover from a serious paragliding accident which involved breaking her back in December 2008 in which she was told she may never walk again, proceeded to then run in The Gobi March in 2010, The Atacama Crossing in 2011 Racing the Planet’s Roving RaceJordan in 2012, winning her Age Category every time.
In 2013, ranked 30th in the Grand to Grand Ultra and early this year ran in The Ocean Floor Race (160 miles non stop). Wanda runs to help raise money for Shelterbox, (http://www.shelterbox.org/) a charity that provides shelter to those who have been afflicted by natural disasters..
Recently was invited as a guest ambassador to the first ever Wings For Life World Run in association with Redbull. Wings for Life (http://www.wingsforlife.com/en/) is a research organisation seeking to find a cure for Spinal cord injuries.
Wanda still dreams of her childhood in Japan, spent growing up on the side of a mountain, going off on her own exploring for miles and miles, climbing trees with her cat, not attending a school and being ‘naively’ free.
